Unity Game Development — Getting Started with Post Processing

Did you ever feel like adding that gritty, filmic look to your games? Did you ever need to differentiate one game level from another visually? Maybe, your goal is to enhance the look and feel of your game. In every one of these cases, Post Processing can help.

I will dedicate this article to the basics and the setup of Post Processing. I want to go over what it is and how to prepare a project in Unity.

Post Processing Overview:

The processing of the output of a computer program or device; especially the conversion of output into a visual form.

Studios often apply Post Processing in movies after shooting and editing a film. This modification is done, for example, in the form of color grading and correction. You are probably intimately familiar with the look and feel this conveys to your favorite films. Color can go a long way in manipulating your audience’s emotions.

Perhaps one of the most iconic examples of this is The Matrix.
